since the new arch book has been released, someone motivated could do a scrub of all the questions and verify which are correct and which are not, and compile a new file to study with :)

herman, this D&D was what about?

  9. herman
    November 29th, 2011

D&D is about distribution and core redundency , left describe example NFS ,SSO ,STP, VSS EC ,FHRP ect.. right describe add bandwidth , no L3 routing needed , add backup link, L3 routing etc.

    herman, thans for the update!
and do you remember the new questions that appeared?

  11. Passed CCDP but only by slim margin
    November 29th, 2011

Passed the CCDP exam today with 804. Only need a 790 to pass. Basically as close as you can get to failing but still pass. Only had 1 new D&D + 2 new MCQ’s. One on Voice streaming, but can’t remember the other.

For my test prep I compiled the AT58-1Sept2011 (including the changes from HPAL and Krishna) + I purchased the Pas4sure.com. There were about 35 questions that had conflicting answers. I went through and tried to research all of them to identify the correct answers so I was very surprised by my barely passing marks.

Good luck to all test takers…don’t take this one lightly and appears all posters have received scores in the low 800’s that have passed. This test is unlike other cisco exams since the content is primarily theoretical vs difinitive. Researching answers is difficult since one source will say one thing and another will contradic that statement, but both will reference valid Cisco source/books.

I would say this test is like playing russian roulette since there is no 90% correct dumps out there.

  12. Passed 818
    November 30th, 2011

I don’t believe the questions been answered – there’s no VoWLAN in the exam. You can check the Cisco exam topics. I certainly did not get any.

Lots of questions about the different VPN technologies, firewall and security – NAC, NAS, and storage network related technologies.
My questions were pretty much the latest version of the vce found in this post. I warn you though a lot of the answers, as the above poster mentioned are incorrect.

As I was going though, for every question I did not understand I went to the Cisco website for info of implementation/design guidelines – only came out with 818.

The questions are there, but not the answers.

    Good luck to all

Failed my first Cisco Exam _ Cisco ARCH today. There were a few new questions and the rest from Pass4sure. I am not sure if the dumps are valid anymore. I answered most of them from the Pass4sure but scored 734 :S ….. Can anyone help and let me know what I should be careful with , I will rewrite this next week.

i am reading the new ARCH book this week, and i have the AT membership, ill check out the latest PDF and go through the questions 1 by 1 to verify they are correct before i start studying… this will take quite some time though…

    December 1st, 2011

I actually have taken this test twice in the last 10 days (you know what that means). No VoWLAN. It seems that 90% of the questions were the same from the first time to the second time. The D&D question herman talked about took me off guard. There are the VMware questions that are new from dumps as well. Some issues/quirks/problems/questions I can think of from dumps and the test…
Know the Cisco proprietary extensions for both RPVST+
The question about Cisco recommended protocol on a campus network…the dumps say the answer is RPVST+…however the answer on the test actually says PVRST+
There are a few more examples I am thinking of, but am away from my resources right now. When I get my brain together and near my resources, I will post some other info.

  17. Confused
    December 1st, 2011

I did 950 on the exam, and can add also, that the answers presented here are mostly wrong. even those provided by local gurus like ravi and krishna, that is a mess, and if you care about your money…
    study by yourself guys.

Confused can you tell me how you studied and what materials to use ?

  19. Confused
    December 1st, 2011

official materials form the course, cisco press self-study to 642-873 and cbt nuggets

  20. Passed CCDP but only by slim margin
    December 1st, 2011

CBT Nuggets 642-873 by Michael Shannon are garbage. I used them….watched them twice actually. He is the worst trainer ever!!! I wish Jeremy Cioara did them…he is awesome as a trainer. Michael Shannon in my humble opinion is the epitome of the cliche “People who can’t do Teach”. I swear he couldn’t troubleshoot his way out of a paper bag.

Again passed the other day with an 818. There are not enough new questions to make you fail even if you answered all of them wrong. The issue is the current dumps only have approximately 75% correct answers and it’s up to you to find out which questions are wrong and stumble upon the correct answers.

I said this before this test is unlike other cisco exams since the content is primarily theoretical vs difinitive. It’s not like the answers are black and white…such as for example “what is the default update interval for RIP”. That is something you can look up and get a clear answer. Researching answers for this test is difficult since one source will say one explanation and another will contradict that statement, but both answers will reference valid Cisco sources/books with pages???

I have taken now 8 cisco test and 3 comptia test and this by far is the most frustrating. I have never gotten below 95% on any of the other exams so it’s not like I’m a bad test taker….this test is really a situation that depending on the day and version of questions you get one day you could pass and the next fail.

Good luck all test takers. I personally would suggest that as a group people reference the AT58-1Sept2011 pdf since everyone here seems to have it and it has 51 of the 55 questions you will see the exam and go through all the 270 questions one by one. It should be that hard if people just post on here to volunteer to take user ANONYMOUS-1 takes questions 1-10. ANONYMOUS-2 takes questions 11-20. ANONYMOUS-3 takes 21-30 and so on….that is really the only way to put this test to rest and benefit everyone as long as they carefully research each question.

Just my two cents….good luck….moving on to the CCIP! Merry Christmas all

These questions were on the exam both times I took it. (not including what I would call relatively easy answers)

What is one of the reasons that custom QoS ACLs are recommended over automatic QoS when configuring ports on a Catalyst 6500 for use with IP phones?
    A. 79xx IP phones do not automatically mark voice packets with non-zero DSCP values.
    B. 79xx IP phones do not mark voice packets with optimal DSCP values
    C. 79xx IP phones use a custom protocol to communicate CDP info to the switch
    D. 79xx IP phones do not mark protocol packets such as DHCP, DNS or TFTP with non-zero DSCP values

I have seen dumps with both B and D as the answer

The next question is one of the more confusing…as it shows up EXACTLY on the test as it does on these dumps. Even with mis-spelling and redundancy.

When is a first-hop redundancy protocol needed in the distribution layer?
    A. when preempt tuning of the default gateway is needed
    B. when the design implements Layer 2 between the access and distribution blocks
    C. when the design implements Layer 2 between the access switch and distribution blocks
    D. when multiple vendor devices need to be supported
    E. when the design implements Layer 2 between the access arid distribution blocks
    F. when a robust method of backing up the default gateway is needed

Some dumps are showing B (even though identical to E, other than the mis-spelling) and some are showing C. Thinking one should say Layer 3?

Which version of spanning tree is recommended for the enterprise campus?
    A. CST
    B. MST
    C. PVST+
    D. STP
    E. RPVST+

I think most would agree it is E (correct me if I am wrong). However, it is important to point out that RPVST+ is aka PVRST+…and PVRST+ is actually what shows up on the test.

OSPF stuf areas are an important tool for the Network designer, which of the following two should be considered when utilizing OSPF stuf areas?
    A. OSPF not so stubby areas are particularly useful as a simpler form of summarization
    B. OSPF totally stubby cannot distinguish among ABRs for the best route to destinations outside the areas
    C. OSPF stub areas increase the size of the LSDB with the addition of Type 3 and 5 LSAs
    D. OSPF stub areas are always insulated from external changes
    E. OSPF stuf areas can distinguish among ASBRs for destinations that are external to the OSPF domain

dumps are showing a combination of A, B and D as the answer…but only two are correct.

There are three steps to confirm whether a range of IP addresses can be summarized. Which of the following is used in each of the 3 steps?
    A. The last number in the contiguous block of addresses
    B. The size of the contiguous block of addresses
    C. The first number in the contiguous block of addresses
    D. The subnet mask of the original network address

Dumps are showing A, B and C as possible answers…choose one.

While I am thinking about it…the D&D’s that cover RP and firewall deployments was on each of my tests.

When assigning the IP routing for Enterprise Campus network, which of the following two iBGP considerations should be taken into account?
    A. iBGP requires a full mesh of eBGP peers
    B. iBGP peers do not add any information to the AS path
    C. The use of route reflections or Confederation eliminate any full mesh requirements while helping to scal iBGP
    D. iBGP dual homing with different ISPs puts the Enterprise at the risk of becoming a transit network
    E. Routers will not advertise iBGP learned routes to other iBGP peers

I believe it to be C and E…but dumps are also showing D as the answer.

If I think of more, I will post, but all of these were on the test both times I took. The test was about 90% the same from the first try to the second. Makes me think they use those questions more often.

    QUESTION NO: 140
As an experienced technician, you are responsible for Technical Support. Which of the following
descriptions is correct about the characteristic of SLB one arm mode?
    A. This out-of-band approach supports scaling
    B. SLB is not inline.
    C. Mode is not as common as bridge or routed mode.
    D. Return traffic requires PBR, server default gateway pointing to SLB, or client source NAT.
Answer: D but seems the answer is B

as An SLB in One-Armed Mode Is Not Inline with the Traffic

can anyone tell the correct answer

    A. when preempt tuning of the default gateway is needed
    B. when the design implements Layer 2 between the access and distribution blocks
    C. when the design implements Layer 2 between the access switch and distribution blocks
    D. when multiple vendor devices need to be supported
    E. when the design implements Layer 2 between the access arid distribution blocks
    F. when a robust method of backing up the default gateway is needed

    Correct Answer is F.
    From the book:
“HSRP and VRRP with Cisco enhancements both provide a robust method of backing up the default gateway, and can provide subsecond failover to the redundant distribution switch when tuned properly.”

Keywords: robust, FHRP is HSRP and VRRP.

Thanks Mike But can you tell me which one to go for.

  41. Cisco Geek
    December 3rd, 2011

Hi Guys , seems there is something wrong with the drag & Drop Questions.
As per the new book , it specifically says on page 39.
Some security personnel have recommended disabling STP at the network edge.
This practice is not recommended because the risk of lost connectivity without STP is
much greater than any STP information that might be revealed. A bridging loop can be
caused by this practice and could potentially create a loss of connectivity and loss of
    device management.

    STP :
Trunks >> Manually Prune unused VLAns
UDLD : Used specifcally on Fibre optics..
Etherchannel: Ensuring that individial Link failure will not result…
VSS : ( as with any etherchannel) always use # of links that is a power of 2 ….

    Please comment !

  42. Mike
    December 3rd, 2011

Leo…I searched the book and it seems to say both of them. Bridge mode is inline. Then, regarding one-armed/two-armed mode, it says:
The one-armed or two-armed mode can be implemented in several ways such that replies from servers pass back through the SLB on their way to the end user. The server default gateway can be set to the SLB device, PBR can be used, or client NAT can be used.
My hunch is they are looking for D as the answer. This question was on the test the first time I took it, not the second.

I found the passage in the book you are talking about…but here is another that just helps muddy the waters:
“A first-hop redundancy protocol is needed only if the design implements Layer 2 between the access switch and distribution switch.”
perhaps those answers aren’t correct because it says distribution block in the options?
inviting others to comment…as I don’t know which they are getting at

Thanks Mike – I am so confused. I am rewriting my test . I didnt pass on this last week. So I am looking through all the questions and trying to figure out if there are any with mistakes on them. Pg 49 , says clearly Etherchannel : Ensuring an individual link failure will not result in STP Failure.

Do you have a summary of the updated corrections on some questions?? I feel I can only rely on the Cisco Press book because if I fail , i can at least reference the book.

    Thoughts anyone ??

  46. Mike

you may be right…I will look that up later today. certainly not going to present myself as an expert or anything.

  47. Mike
    December 4th, 2011

Cisco Geek…I think it might be best to go with your answers on those two. It almost seems they could be interchangable. However, the section on Etherchannel specifically has the quote you menion. Then in the VSS section, it says “As with any EtherChannel, always use a number of lins that is a power of 2 to optimize the load balancing of traffic across the VSLs.” IMO, when in doubt, go with the verbatim answer and don’t try to reason too much.

guys if u want u can make the question in vce format is very easy install the certexamsuite and open the designer…. use some old version of vce without password and start to put section of question…attack section by section with the book

    link software http://www.4shared.com/get/4ntaSmze/Visual_CertExam_Suite_19987_by.html
    link vce last updated http://www.examcollection.com/cisco/Cisco.Prepking.642-874.v2011-11-24.by.Jenna.265q.vce.file.html
it s easier than making an excel or word file and believe me just correct and some section and upload the link and one of us can continue on the next section
we can be stronger as a community …or we can fail each one by himself
